Multistimuli-Responsive Dynamic Effects in a One-Dimensional Coordination Polymer

The development of multistimuli-receptive actuators demands a rational combination suitable functionalities. Achieving such actuating properties in single crystalline material is challenge. In spite several investigations on photo-, thermo,- and mechano-responsive crystals, displaying all these effects rare. By judicious photoreactive 2-fluoro-4′-styrylpyridine units flexible Pb3(SCN)3 units, multistimuli-responsive one-dimensional (1D) coordination polymer (CP) showing dynamic has been fabricated. Single crystals the CP display rapid ballistic events upon ultraviolet (UV) irradiation triggered by [2 + 2] cycloaddition ligands. addition, macroscopic jumping, bending, splitting were observed during both heating cooling cycles because reversible phase transition. Further, slender exhibit elastic deformation application mechanical force. With handful examples CPs show effects, this paves way for designing multisalient materials.
